"PCB Submits Champions Trophy Schedule to ICC, Includes India Matches in Pakistan"
PCB submits 2025 ICC Champions Trophy schedule to ICC, pushes for all matches in Pakistan
The ninth edition of the prestigious ICC Champions Trophy will be held in February and March 2025 and will feature the top eight men's national ODI teams battling for cricketing glory.
In a recent press conference, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi confirmed the board's commitment to host the entire tournament in Pakistan. Naqvi proudly announced that the PCB had handed over a comprehensive plan to the ICC and highlighted their desire for an event hosted exclusively by Pakistan.
The announcement was supported by positive feedback from the ICC's security team, which recently conducted a thorough assessment of the facilities and security measures at prominent venues such as the National Bank Stadium in Karachi, the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore and the Pindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi.
However, looming uncertainty surrounds the participation of the Indian cricket team, attributed to the ongoing political tension between India and Pakistan. The BCCI would need government approval to clear the team's path to Pakistan, a hurdle that appears daunting given the current
diplomatic climate. Sources within the BCCI have hinted at the possibility of adopting a hybrid model for the tournament, potentially involving matches outside Pakistan. There is also speculation about the likelihood of venue changes if India's involvement as per the proposed schedule remains unattainable.
Despite these challenges, the PCB remains undaunted in its quest to host the triumphant Champions Trophy only within Pakistan's borders. Their unwavering determination to organize a successful event has earned them recognition from the ICC delegation, underscoring the meticulous preparations undertaken to ensure a seamless and memorable tournament experience.
