"Rizwan closing in on Kohli, Azam records."
"Exciting news from Rawalpindi: Pakistan's talented wicket-keeper batsman, Mohammad pRizwan, is on the brink of shattering a major T20I record held by teammates Babar Azam and cricket icon Virat Kohli. Stay tuned for updates during the New Zealand series!"
Virat Kohli and Babar Azam have etched their names in cricket history as the joint-fastest players to reach the milestone of 3000 runs in T20I cricket, achieving this feat in a mere 81 innings. Not far behind is Australia’s Aaron Finch, who achieved the same milestone in 98 innings. However, the spotlight now shifts to Mohammad Rizwan, who is on the brink of rewriting this record book. Rizwan needs a mere 19 runs in his next two innings to surpass Kohli and Azam and claim the title of the fastest to reach 3000 runs in T20I cricket, having already accumulated an impressive 2981 runs in just 78 innings.
Meanwhile, Babar Azam is not just content with sharing this record; he has his eyes set on another milestone – surpassing Virat Kohli's record for the most runs in T20I cricket. Azam currently sits at 3698 runs, positioning him as the third-highest run-scorer in the format. Kohli leads the chart with an astonishing 4037 runs, closely followed by his compatriot Rohit Sharma, who has amassed 3974 runs.
Adding to the excitement, Azam needs just 340 runs in five games to become the highest run-scorer and only the second player to cross the 4000-run mark in T20I cricket. As anticipation builds, cricket enthusiasts can catch all the action as Pakistan hosts New Zealand for a thrilling five-match T20I series commencing from April 18.
The series will kick off at Rawalpindi’s iconic Pindi Cricket Stadium, where the first three T20Is will be held on April 18, 20, and 21, before the action shifts to Lahore’s historic Gaddafi Stadium for the final two matches on April 25 and 27.
Both teams have announced their squads, with Pakistan led by Babar Azam and featuring standout players such as Mohammad Rizwan, Shaheen Afridi, and Shadab Khan. New Zealand, on the other hand, will be captained by Michael Bracewell and boasts a talented lineup including Jimmy Neesham, Ish Sodhi, and Tim Seifert.
