Imran Khan Poised to Become Chancellor of Oxford University While Incarcerated

LONDON ( - July 25, 2024): Imran Khan, the incarcerated founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), is on the verge of achieving yet another prestigious global honor. According to media reports, there is a significant possibility that Khan will be elected as the Chancellor of the world-renowned and ancient Oxford University.

Despite being confined in Adiala Jail, Imran Khan is expected to contest the election for the position of Chancellor of Oxford University, a role that has also attracted notable candidates, including former British Prime Ministers Tony Blair and Boris Johnson.

Zulfi Bukhari, Imran Khan’s advisor on international media, shared with the British magazine The Telegraph that there has been a popular demand for Khan to run for this esteemed position. Bukhari mentioned that following Khan's approval, a formal announcement and signature campaign would be initiated.

According to The Telegraph, the Chancellor’s position at Oxford became vacant following the resignation of 80-year-old Lord Patten, the former Governor of Hong Kong and Chairman of the Tory Party, who served in this role for 21 years. This will be the first time that the Chancellor’s elections at Oxford will be conducted online, allowing alumni to participate in their full academic regalia.

Imran Khan, an alumnus of Oxford’s Keble College, where he earned a degree in Economics, has a prior history with academic administration. Before deciding to run for the Chancellorship at Oxford, he served as the Chancellor of Bradford University from 2005 to 2014.

The election of Imran Khan as the Chancellor of Oxford University, despite his current incarceration, highlights his enduring influence and the high regard in which he is held internationally. This development is a testament to Khan’s remarkable legacy and the widespread support he continues to receive.
