The victorious Indian cricket team's return from the 2024 T20 World Cup has been delayed due to severe weather conditions in Barbados. Officials have suspended air travel due to a hurricane-like situation, forcing players to stay in their hotels.
According to NDTV, the Indian team defeated South Africa in the T20 World Cup final on Saturday. They were scheduled to return home on Sunday, but there is no clear update on their return due to the adverse weather, which has confined captain Rohit Sharma and his team to their hotel rooms.
India Today reports that Hurricane Beryl has led to the closure of Barbados Airport, with all flights canceled. As a Category 4 storm, the second-most severe category, the authorities are not taking any risks with air travel.
Media sources indicate that Beryl is expected to impact the Windward Islands with winds reaching 130 miles per hour.
On June 29, in the ICC T20 World Cup final jointly hosted by the USA and the West Indies, India became the world champion in T20 cricket after 17 years by defeating South Africa by 7 runs in a thrilling match.
By defeating South Africa in the final held in Barbados, India claimed the title for the second time.
Chasing a target of 177 runs, South Africa fought well but lost wickets at crucial moments and couldn't form lasting partnerships, ultimately falling short.
The Indian team managed to post 176/7 in their 20 overs, with Virat Kohli, who had struggled throughout the tournament, scoring a pivotal 74 runs. In response, South Africa could only muster 169/8.
