ISLAMABAD: In a significant development, the US Embassy in Pakistan has announced a major reduction in appointment wait times for various visa categories. This move is set to streamline and expedite the visa application process for Pakistani applicants.


The embassy revealed that the wait time for visa appointments has been drastically cut from 440 days to 230 days. This initiative aims to enhance the efficiency of the visa application process for individuals seeking student visas, business visas, family reunion visas, and more.


An embassy official stated, "We are working diligently to handle the increased demand and facilitate as many applicants as possible." The embassy has introduced several measures to expedite visa processing and is committed to reducing wait times to the minimum possible.


Historically, the US Embassy in Islamabad and Karachi processed approximately 10,000 applications per month. With the new measures in place, the embassy aims to improve this number significantly.


The official emphasized the embassy's commitment to continually expanding and enhancing its processes. "Our goal is to further reduce wait times and improve the overall experience for visa applicants," the official added.


For applicants who have already submitted their visa applications, the embassy has implemented a system to review cases via email. Each application is assessed individually, and decisions are typically made within three to four working days after the interview.


Regarding visa charges, the embassy clarified that it only imposes the standard application fee, which is consistent globally. The embassy also highlighted that last year saw the highest number of applicants ever, reflecting a growing demand for US visas in Pakistan.
