"The cost of electricity reflects the toll of mismanagement on our society."

"The cost of electricity reflects the toll of mismanagement on our society." "In September 2023, the decision to increase the base electricity tariff by 25.5 percent led to widespread protests as August bills surged for millions of consumers. The soaring electricity prices can be traced back to a series of issues stemming from mismanagement within the power sector. Firstly, including indirect taxes in electricity bills has become a coercive measure due to the government's inability to collect taxes from influential elites. These levies burden countless households. Secondly, losses within the system, including theft, line losses, and unpaid bills, drive up costs. Widespread electricity theft, facilitated by public-sector electricity distribution officials, remains a pervasive problem. Meter tampering and unauthorized 'kundas' are common practices. Corruption and mismanagement within distribution companies contribute to these issues. Technical line losses are ...

Imran's bail plea hearing delayed by court  Lahore High Court  Lohare/Islamabad: In Islamabad, a special court has postponed the hearing of post-arrest bail applications submitted by PTI Chairman Imran Khan and Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi in the diplomatic cipher case until the Islamabad High Court (IHC) decides a plea challenging the court's jurisdiction. Meanwhile, the Lahore High Court (LHC) is scheduled to address petitions filed by Imran Khan against the rejection of his pre-arrest bail applications in seven different cases. Imran, who served as the country's prime minister until April last year, currently faces around 180 cases. These cases primarily stem from incidents that occurred following the sacking of the Lahore corps commander's house on May 9. In these petitions, presented by Barrister Salman Safdar, Imran has also named the Attock jail superintendent as a respondent. He argues that his bail applications were dismissed due to his non-appearance in ...

Known for his graceful batting style, especially the breathtaking cover drive, Babar Azam has left a mark on ODI cricket that few can match. However, his experiences in Sri Lanka have been somewhat limited, despite the similarities in playing conditions to his home turf. Fresh from his jaw-dropping century against Nepal in the Asia Cup opener, Babar Azam seems poised to carry that momentum into the epic clash against India on September 2nd at the iconic Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. Let's dive into Babar Azam's ODI record in Sri Lanka. He's graced the Sri Lankan soil for five ODI matches, amassing a total of 150 runs at an average of 30 and a strike rate of 73.53.
